Oh, I'm glad it looks that way, doesn't always feel that way! There are so many things demanding attention in any given day, I just try to do little bits here and there knowing it will eventually add up to something.
I think what impresses me most about you and your work is how you are making the "whole" thing. Starting with yarn and picking colors and, in a very organic way, using your skill to let the form wander and grow in a natural way. It's so pure creativity. It calls to me. Like fractals do.
Thank you so much. It's such a satisfying way to work. In my classes, I always talk about how freeform crochet allows you to get your way because you can do anything you like with it. Who doesn't like to get their way?!
Really enjoyed this newsletter! How large is the finished leaf piece? Doing leaves seems a very approachable way to bridge the gap between the desire to do more freeforming and actually doing it.
Thanks Kate! The leaf scrumble is probably 3.5 feet across, sort of baby blanket sized. I didn't intend to put them all together like that, the idea just came up when I started using scrumbles to organize teaching samples and technique swatches.
If leaves call out to you, try giving yourself the freedom to try anything and everything that you can fit in a leaf shape. It will put you in exploration mode, which is where you want to be for freeform as much as possible. I learned that, really for the first time, when I did 100 days of spirals. Having no concern for what you'll do with your leaves or spirals or any other element is the best way to make it irresistible to play with freeform
